Oscar winning movies, Emmy-nominated TV shows – Paul Alexander has watched them all. But occasionally he opens his laptop and does a bit of writing.
For Idea Hat productions, Paul recently completed work on a pilot script (and completed mini-episode) for an animated comedy Do Not Resuscitate. And for Wild Child Animation, Paul is head writer and script editor for another proposed adult animated comedy called Butthole Biscuits.
His other current projects include, for Lime Pictures, the pilot of a new musical sitcom TV series. He has also been commissioned to turn a movie he wrote for Gold Circle Films (From Me to You) into a stage show.
His lockdown project, in collaboration with Kim Fuller, with whom he co-wrote four series of the very popular BBC Radio 4 sitcom The Castle is Comics Rebubbled, an anthology of comic pieces using repurposed vintage comics to make brand new stories.
The musical he wrote in collaboration with Thom Southerland and Irving Berlin(!) – The Smallest Show on Earth – toured the UK at the end of 2015.
He is currently writing another musical, Keep Your Lipstick On (about the feisty occupants of a cancer support group) with the same team with whom he previously developed a musical – for West End producer AP Enterprises – based on the world’s most famous consulting detective.
He also scripted Henry – A Killer New Musical (based on the career of America’s first serial killer) with composer Lawrence Michalowski.
Other recent TV ventures include signing a first-look deal to create (in collaboration with Paul Mendelson) three new comedies for indie producer Sly Fox Productions and other stage ventures include.
Paul co-wrote several episodes of the Disney Channel musical series Groove High. Other recent TV work includes BBC sitcom Life of Riley, and Nickelodeon’s Summer in Transylvania. He also co-created the Dreamworks Animation TV series Neighbors from Hell (for TBS).
He spent a year writing for Emmerdale and created, script-edited and wrote half the four-season 48 episode run of the family sitcom My Spy Family for Cartoon Network (their first ever live action sitcom). He also script-edited series two and three of John Sullivan’s Green Green Grass.
His screenplays include Staggered, which he also co-produced (and which picked up three awards including Best Film at the 14th International Festival Du Comedie at Vevey, Switzerland) and Seeing Double (the S-Club movie!).
